About me

As an award winning concert pianist and the founder of Deborah Joy Piano Academy, I have performed across North America, Korea, and Europe, and have taught at the academy for over 30 years. From beginners to doctorate level pianists and beyond, I have had the pleasure of teaching children of all ages, young adults, college students, music majors, professional pianists, competition winners, and passionate music lovers. I've instructed classes at the University of Michigan, Northeastern University, and Arizona State University, where I also taught private lessons to music majors while working on my Doctorate in Piano Performance. I teach classical music, jazz, traditional/contemporary worship songs, music theory, accompaniment, and improvisation.

In order to create the optimal learning experience, my piano lessons are customized, and cater to each student's learning style and goals. While they will LOVE to actually be able to play music, they will also be building a great foundation of piano technique, music theory, and performance

Through my many years of teaching and my rich experience as a performer, I am able to train my students to not only have excellent technique and a great knowledge base, but to also be wonderful, confident, and passionate performers who connect with their audiences through the magnificent beauty of piano music. My students have won competitions, have earned the highest scores at state piano exams, and have gone on to pursue music as their profession.

Making music is my greatest passion. And I look forward to working with you to also create the MOST BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!
